Atomic Force Microscopy

This workshop is planned to offer a general theoretical foundats of the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) technique, as well as its operational guidelines for analyzing different kinds of samples, such as thin film coatings, nanoparticles, and biological samples. We will show the principles of the AFM and demonstrate its applications in life sciences. We will also discuss key points and limitations about this technology, particularly, of the technical knowledge necessary when managing noise levels using the AFM instrument.

Atomic Layer Deposition

The objective of this workshop is to study the basic concepts of cathodoluminescence technique (CL) and show its use in the characterization of optical properties of semiconductors. In this workshop, we will present the physical fundaments of the generation of the CL signal in a semiconductor material and show the typical experimental configurations encountered in research studies. We will also offer a review of this technique employed in the characterization of dislocations, grain structure, and point defects of semiconductors.

Ellipsometry Fundamentals: Theory and Practice

Modeling 2D Systems: Structure and Electronic Properties

The aim of this workshop is to give you the first steps for the modeling of two-dimensional (2D) systems and its characterization by using computational tools based in density functional theory. We will offer a brief introduction to density functional theory, its implications for potential applications, its extent to explain experimental findings and its use to propose novel materials with new and enhanced properties. In the second part of this workshop, we shall introduce the modeling -from scratch- of a 2D system.

Raman Spectroscopy

In this workshop, we will explain how an optical technique such as Raman scattering spectroscopy gives us detailed information about the composition of a sample. We will present the process involved in obtaining Raman scattering and the equipment used for this aim.

Surface Modification of Nanomaterials for Biomedical Application
